What is the Process of Weatherproofing Building ?

How Big of a Gap Can Caulk Fill ?
Caulk alone can be used to fill gaps up to around ¼-inch wide. The caulk will seal the crack so no water or air gets into the building. If you have larger cracks in your building, a foam backer rod or other material may be used to fill the gap first, with a layer of caulk applied over the top. This allows the gap to be filled and the caulk to seal and waterproof the area.
